elke foltz
(b. 1990) is a french painter with senegalese and german roots, currently based in berlin.
her work reflects the search for harmony and questions what connects us as individuals.
using vibrant colors and fluid, organic shapes, foltz creates abstract compositions in which elements interact, overlap, and occasionally disrupt one another, creating a dynamic, ecosystem-like balance.
"my search for balance is not about perfection, it is about the "path" with all the failures, successes, and surprises that the creative process can bring."
in her practice, foltz often reintegrates cut-out fragments of canvas into her paintings, allowing these pieces to act as traces of the creative journey. these fragments, reintroduced into the work, become symbols of renewal, transformation, and balance—an ongoing dialogue between intention and discovery.
"i create paintings that capture the essence of fleeting moments. my artistic process is deeply intertwined with my emotions and perception of the world around me. it’s a dynamic interplay between experimentation on canvas and paper, followed by direct painting on the canvas itself. i then integrate these experiments into the final piece, often through the use of collages."
